Integrating academic services to teach, learn, and collaborate with local and international communities to build long term sustainability through architecture and urban planning.
ABOUT THE LAB
Environmental impact and sustainability are crucial issues in shaping the way current built environments are designed and used, leading to necessary needs of a multidisciplinary approach in research, learning and working within this context. The Design for Environmental and Sustainable Development Lab (D/E/S) provides an opportunity for collaborative learning and working with various groups of people—from innovation and design professionals to local community who play an important role in environmental and sustainable development. Our team consists of lecturers in building technology, architecture, landscape architecture and planning, and urban design who work closely with the School of Engineering and Innovation. The D/E/S Lab utilizes an integrated approach to operate its educational activities within this vision to produce inclusive design solutions that improve the conditions of life without spoiling the environment for future generations.

WHY US?
The D/E/S Lab is a group of interdisciplinary practitioners addressing sustainable development through the study and practice of architecture, landscape architecture, and master planning. The ethos of our work lies in the balance between addressing human needs while also preserving the natural world. By integrating technology and innovative approaches, we believe that it is possible to reduce our environmental impact and reclaim natural resources while also providing better living conditions for all. Our mission is to cultivate and instill sustainable design knowledge in younger generations and the society at large.
Integrated Coaching, Training, Workshop, Micro-Credentials
Our courses, workshops, and training programs are designed to situate students outside the classroom and into real settings, working with communities and subject experts on contextual issues that will be implemented and continued on even after the class ends.
Design Research
To strive for sustainability, resilience, and well-being, we approach problems through an evidence-based research approach to test our hypotheses in real environments, often utilizing methods of experience digitization and simulation.
Sustainable Design and Well-Being
As market demands being to have agency on the importance of sustainability, it is important that we look at the sustainable design not only from the perspective of built products and services, but also from the perspective of systems and policies. At the D/E/S Lab, we ensure that our solutions perform well in accordance to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The lab offers a one stop service for tackling issues of sustainability at the holistic level.
Consulting
We believe in the potential of people, and that our consultation process can help enrich and unlock the capabilities of our participants. We provide both practical and experimental consultations that can be applied as design guidelines or subjects for further study.
